Director of Research & Development

 

Our client is currently searching for a Director of Research and Development.  Our client is a global company with a long heritage within the finance field.

 

The Director of R&D would be in charge of the projects, the people and the processes in their area of responsibility.

 

This position is focused on providing strategic leadership to 2 engineering sites (local and US) and ensuring alignment with European HQ regarding processes, tools, approaches, and R&D strategy.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Director R&D is responsible for:

  • the performance and the skill development for all their personnel
  • project performance against plan
  • the process performance in their area of responsibility
  • R&D development cost estimates and adherence to estimates
  • compliance with company rules
  • represent R&D on the American subsidiary management team
  • ensure synchronization of tools and processes between global R&D team and local R&D staff
  • contribute to global R&D process development and improvement activities
  • some hands on work in planning and process related activities and arbitration of technical decisions

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering (SW or mechanical or EE), or BS Engineering plus MBA  
  • Solid process orientation and experience in implementing significant change projects
  • 10+ years Management experience, with culturally diverse, multi location experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of business processes and financial statements
  • Familiarity with SEI CMMI, software engineering practices, background in system or software requirements development
  • Experience with enterprise level software development is highly desirable
  • Some hardware development experience is also desirable
  • Someone who has done embedded systems development (HW + SW) with a strong SW or engineering process background would be a good fit
  • Experience working within a CMM or CMMi environment required, implementation experience within CMM or CMMi strongly preferred

 

A strong understanding of the following software technologies is highly desirable:

 

VB6, Java, .NET, C# , C++, Websphere, Oracle, SQL,

SW Tools: DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest, Sotograph, Sotoarc, MS Visual Studio,

HW: Experience with high speed industrial automation systems (currency processors, mail sorters, or similar) strongly desired.

PMI certification is a plus, but not required.
