Buyer / MerchandiserReports To: Merchandiser Manager

Scope:
1. Responsible for the merchandising, purchasing, profitability and maintenance of his/her product groups.
2. Maintains a professional relationship with their suppliers and acts as a liaison for their designated product lines.
3. Supports the marketing activity of the company by providing creative ideas and new products / suppliers to DCR’s. Provide support for the agreed upon marketing initiative involving supplier and or product initiatives and promotions.
4. Continually monitors market conditions, product changes, price level changes, terms, discounts, allowances, promotions and supplier conditions.
5. Will make a continuing effort to purchase products at the lowest total cost and improve the quality and marketability of their respected product line.
6. Seek new and/or better products to benefit the company and our customers.
7. Makes recommendations to the department for better results, which would include better methodologies, system improvements, and streamlining procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for managing all documents; correspondence quotes etc. and meets or exceeds the expected turnaround time with external and internal customers (Company Personnel and Suppliers).
Creates and maintains part number and initial cost set-ups within Great Plains.
Responsible for the establishment of a target selling price and trading margin on all special, made-to- order merchandise and all non-stock items.
Conforms to the buy-out procedure outlined by company policy.
Monitors and manages inventory in Stock and JIT in all categories to achieve desired company turn rates.
Prepares accurate and up to date notes on items on the MSR and other types of documentation.
Updates and maintains accurate information on the PO follow-up report keeping open communication with suppliers on lead-time and performance
Processes merchandise control requests and AP follow-ups in a timely manner with comprehensive communication between departments.
Seeks out and investigates products that may be substituted to the customer as an alternative to the item.
Responsible for contributing to the Gross Trading Margin of each item within their assigned product group.
Responsible for communicating deviation costing, and cost changes to the costing department in a timely manner.
Update correct costing to the penny after verification by the vendor.
Maintain an up-to-date log of supplier increases.

Requirements
To be considered for this position you must have:
- Min 5 years distribution industry experience required in purchasing
- Degree preferred but not a must
- Corrugated and/or Janitorial Products experience is highly preferred
Computer skills – Word, Excel, MS Office.
