Summary or responsibilities:
This position is responsible for Analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare detailed time, cost, and labor estimates for HVAC/Mechanical projects;
Essential Job Functions:
§ Review contract documents to determine material, labor, and startup requirements and prepare itemized estimated;
§ Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work: preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determine cost effectiveness;
§ Perform negociated estimates;
§ Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues;
§ Analyze mechanical systems and propose alternatives;
§ Perform value engineering – evaluation and reporting;
§ Evaluate and reconcile bids from subcontractors and vendors;
§ Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions;
§ Review and finalize estimates prepared by the estimating department personnel;
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in HVAC, quantity surveying, construction management or mechanical engineering, with the following;
§ Minimum 5 years industry experience in HVAC/Estimating on large-scale commercial & institutional buildings and/or industrial projects. Hospital experience is a plus;
§ In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems in buildings and their installation processes;
§ Ability to interpret final contract documents, conceptual and schematic construction drawings, narratives and outlines;
§ Ability to think strategically, plan and problem solve, and take responsibility for the HVAC components of the project;
§ Excellent client (owners/developers/engineers) relation skills and the ability to create an impression of understanding and confidence;
§ Capacity to work in a team setting with minimal supervision or direction;
§ Ability to produce and write a detailed estimate, including reports, papers, detailed scope letters and emails;
§ Excellent organization, communication and computer skills;
§ Attention to detail and quality;
§ Degree in relevant engineering discipline or business
