Our client is developing a mobile, point-of-care device, converging nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology, for global distribution. The device will be capable of cost-effective, rapid, automated molecular diagnosis of multiple infectious diseases simultaneously, addressing the leading cause of death, disease, and economic disruption. Our client is a start-up that is looking forward to transition from prototype development to full-scale engineering, manufacturing, and marketing company.
It seeks an engineering executive with industry and product development depth to provide leadership for the cycle from technology to shippable product. This position, reporting to the CEO, offers strategic and tactical scope. The incumbent will have relevant technical and engineering experience, ideally in an entrepreneurial environment and in molecular diagnostics and medical devices. The incumbent will exhibit a progressive engineering management career with emphasis on leadership, detail-oriented management, new product development, innovative solutions, and alliance management. The incumbent will be able to relate well to all stakeholders in scientific and business domains.
Accountabilities
Responsible for organizing and leading a research and development department that designs and implements product development plans on schedule and on budget, in a creative, productive, efficient, and enjoyable environment. Specific deliverables comprise:
§ Product specifications, designs, development, testing, manufacturing and supply chain management, QA, regulatory, schedules, and cost management
§ Departmental operation, scalable development methodologies, technical procedures, performance metrics and reviews, internal and external design reviews, and best practices
§ Efficient and productive external relationships, including with customers, and scientific and industry partners
§ Accurate budgets and schedules, with optimal application of resources
§ Synergy among stakeholders in product development, business development, and operations development
§ Responding productively and personally to unfolding internal and external dynamics

§ Demonstrable engineering background in business, including entrepreneurial companies, in medical devices
§ Demonstrable knowledge in two or more of the following technical areas: bioassays, nanotechnology, informatics, signal processing, diagnostics, microtechnology

§ Experience leading and managing creative technical people
