Job Description:

Our client is seeking an assay and screen development expert with drug discovery experience and a record of delivering high quality leads and clinical candidates.

 

 

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop, validate and optimize high throughput screens for the discovery of small molecule hits;
  • Establish relevant secondary assays to conduct SAR and move projects from hit assessment stage to lead generation and optimization;
  • Collaborate effectively with the screening facilities in the Ontario area;
  • Implement effective screening paradigms to expedite the drug discovery process and reach team milestones;
  • Effectively play a liaison role with internal and external collaborators and CROs;
  • Maintain a knowledge of new screening technologies and methods that impact the drug discovery process;
  • Work effectively under pressure and tight timelines;
  • Wommunicate effectively.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

         PhD in the areas of Biochemistry or Cell Biology with >6 years experience in the area of small molecule lead generation, optimization and drug discovery;

         Extensive experience in the development and execution of high throughput small molecule screens in a biotech or pharmaceutical company;

         Extensive experience in the development of functional assays to support medicinal chemistry efforts (ie: using whole cell, enzyme based, protein/protein interaction assays);

         A strong background in molecular oncology and related signal transduction pathways is required;

         Knowledge of drug discovery processes and timelines;

         Great team player and excellent interpersonal skills;

         Proven track record as a scientist as evidenced by substantial publication and patent record;

         Experience in target validation and conducting in vivo animal studies is highly desirable;

         Highly motivated self starter that enjoys an element of ambiguity and is willing to adapt to a changing environment;

         A strong knowledge of cancer biology and pharmacology is required.

 

 

Our client is a new centre of excellence in cancer research located in the in downtown Toronto. Launched in December 2005, They are an independent research institute funded by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. They are addressing significant challenges in with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams. New discoveries to prevent, detect and treat cancer will be moved from the bench to practical applications in patients.
