POSITION: Vice President or Director of Business Development (title depends upon experience). This is a management position. However, this will also be an individual contributor position initially.
COMPANY: Consumer-focused, internet and mobile smartphone company. The company has been getting tons of great press and is close to profitability. It is ranked in the top 50 of most essential iPhone Apps.
LOCATION: Position is located in the San Francisco Bay area (Silicon Valley). Working remotely is not an option. Board is flexible to relocate the right candidate.
COMPENSATION: Board is willing and able to put together the right package for the right candidate. The compensation package will include: base salary, bonus, stock options and full benefits package. There will be an emphasis on incentives for outstanding performance. The Board wants to hire someone who is very motivated.
MANAGEMENT STYLE/CORPORATE CULTURE: Position reports to the COO. He loves to delegate and help you be successful. He will help you set goals and priorities, then give you room to succeed. Need someone that can think independently, and come to him when necessary. Need someone who is self-disciplined and can hit the ground running. Candidates need to be highly effective at managing their own time and priorities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have recently held a position at a brand-name, consumer-focused internet company or mobile/smartphone company with responsibility for business development and strategic partnerships that resulted in substantial customer acquisition and revenue growth.
Must have a well developed Rolodex of key contacts at some of the following types of companies: 1) The manufacturers and vendors that create Smartphones such as Apple, BlackBerry, RIM, Palm, Nokia, Samsung, Microsoft, Windows, HP, etc 2) Major wireless carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Nextel, AT&T, Cingular, etc 3) Major internet media companies such as Yahoo!, Google, AOL, MSN, CNET, etc 4) Large mobile ad networks such as Quattro Wireless, Admob, Adfonic, Ad Infuse, etc 5) Silicon Valley-based companies in the consumer internet and mobile marketing space.
Must have a proven track record of increasing the number of customers and revenues through channel partners.
Must be comfortable prospecting, building and extending relationships, writing a deal memo, negotiating contracts, etc. Someone with strong customer presentation skills including PowerPoint is required. Also, business and revenue modeling with Excel is required. Need someone who is good at building relationships and managing short as well as long sales cycles. Revenue creation and relationship development is critical.
Must be able to close several large, branded advertising campaigns. (You will not be responsible for selling the product. You will just be responsible for managing the companies that will sell it.)
Must have earned undergraduate and/or higher degrees from respected universities. Looking for candidates that are highly analytical and results focused.
