Job Description:
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Meditech Application Specialist is a key member of our clients' SIMS/ICT team and reports to the ICT Manager. This candidate works closely with other members of the team to support the Meditech application. This system is comprised of patient registration, MDS assessments, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, outpatient scheduling, and several financial and human resource modules. The Meditech Application is the center of our clients' Clinical Information Technology and business services activities. It is extremely important to the organization that the information systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible. The Application Specialist will focus their activities on development and maintenance of the Meditech Application. As a member of the Meditech Application team the Specialist will play an important role in ensuring successful deployment and adoption of Meditech and providing high-quality service to the organization. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: - Leads development of Meditech design and building principles, concepts, standards, and techniques.
- Advances Meditech database design, customer support, and operational effectiveness through a variety of project and initiatives
- Viewed as an expert in Meditech database and its operational processes.
- Conducts moderate to highly complex operational projects/functions of mid to large scope, requiring additional specialized knowledge in multiple application areas
- Supports multiple operational projects/functional areas concurrently.

Performs innovative system investigations -
M eet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues. - Works on complex problems and provides innovative and creative solutions that will achieve quality and work process improvements.
- Develops and presents material for review and informational purposes using excellent written, verbal and graphical communication skills, with the ability to express complex technical concepts effectively.
- Ability to build consensus among people from different disciplines
- Executes straightforward to highly innovative Change Requests in accordance with an established process. Manages risks by managing client expectations and taking early action to resolve problems.
- Performs application release and database testing in accordance with the established standard process as well as leading process improvement.
- Performs application performance benchmarking
- Provides customer service liaison role in accordance with the established standard processes as well as leading process improvement/development.
- Provides functional expertise in the core Meditech functional modules as well as other key client IT applications as required.
- Makes practical suggestions for improving work processes in own area.
- A vailable to work flexible shifts including overnight, weekends and holidays.
- Leads medium to large operational projects
- Participates in large strategic initiatives
- Leads the development and documentation of new database standards.
- Develops, mentors, and coaches others
- Demonstrates strong tactical and some critical strategic thinking
- Demonstrates initiatives to learn advanced Meditech database skills.
- Works well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and the client's Health and Safety Policies, to client’s Policies and Procedures, including Incident Reporting Policy.

- Complete other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:. - BS or BA Degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, System Engineering, Clinical Discipline or related work experience preferred. Clinical background an asset.
- Has extensive knowledge and experience (4 to 7 years) with fundamental MEDITECH database design and building principles, concepts, standards, and techniques.
- Has extensive knowledge and application of fundamental MEDITECH customer support and change management processes.
- Extensive experience in standard application testing, business systems analysis and/or problem resolution.
- Extensive experience supporting business applications in a client server and Citrix environment.
- Sound knowledge of project management techniques and skills and experience working on projects in a technical lead role
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: - Proven experience in overseeing and coordinating the design, development, and implementation of business solutions and products.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation
- Experience working with clinical staff and support staff, enthusiastic, possessing a positive outlook with a firm belief that information systems can positively impact patient care
- Excellent customer relations and client service orientated, superb analytical, problem recognition and creative problem solving skills
- Logical and efficient with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Good presentation, technical writing, and training skills
- Clinical certificate/diploma or equivalent experience preferred
- Ability to effectively operate computer software, and peripheral equipment, i.e., Windows 2000, MS Office Suite, Microsoft Project, etc.
- Knowledge of SQL/ Crystal Reports an asset
- Knowledge of NPR Reporting and other Meditech Integrated software applications (i.e. iPeople) an asset
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint and MS Project.
- Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, current network hardware, protocols, and standards an asset.
- Experience working with HL7 an asset
