Mechanical Design Engineer

Expected Job Duties:

• To provide professional-level skills for the design, estimations and documentation of mechanical systems for construction and renovation projects.
• Join the multi-disciplined team and generate designs perform engineering calculations, and create documentations for heating, ventilation, air condition (HVAC), fire suppression and Plumbing systems and controls (DDC)  40%
• Develop HVAC, plumbing and sprinkler labor and material cost estimates for resources to accomplish constructions and renovation projects using standards – based reference guides  25%
• Create construction documents utilizing Auto CAD for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection.  25%
• Apply technical expertise in problem solving construction administration efforts for new mechanical construction and renovation projects  5%
• Review mechanical designs prepared by staff and consultants for renovation and new construction projects.  5%

Required Skills/Education

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience gained through a minimum of 7 years mechanical design including background in HVAC, plumbing, and sprinkler systems.
• CAD knowledge gained through a minimum of 5 years experience.
• Computer literacy in PC-based applications including Windows, spreadsheets, and word processing.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Must possess a current state of residence drivers’ license.
• Applicants will be subject to a background investigation and evaluation.

Desired Skills/Education

• Professional Engineers’ license
• Experience gained through a minimum of 2 years of mechanical construction field experience
• Knowledge/experience with computer based estimating systems.
• Experience with coordination review, constructability review, and design coordination reviews.

Environment

• 7 am to 3:30 pm
• Requires operation of APL vehicles.
• Occasional travel and overtime may be required.
• Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, roofs, etc
