Spacecraft Power System Lead Engineer

Expected Job Duties:

Senior power system lead engineer for the design and development of space power systems including:

  • Space power system conceptual/architectural design, analysis, identifying power needs; power generation, power storage, power processing and distribution.   Requisite power tradeoff studies.   Leading or participation in proposal activities.   Mentoring staff to expand the Group in this area. (30%)
  • Lead power system engineer responsible for all technical, cost and schedule aspects of a defined task including, but not limited to, power systems detailed design, analysis, requirements, test planning, power systems procurements, design/development of solar arrays, batteries and power system electronics, design/development of distribution electronics, design/development for power systems test sets and solar array simulators.   (50%)
  • Supporting the power systems during I&T, launch and post launch operations. (10%)
  • Keeping abreast of power systems state of the art; energy conversion technologies; energy storage technologies; DC/DC technologies, power distribution and other relevant technologies.

Required Skills/Education:

  • MSEE or equivalent
  • Senior position requiring a minimum of 10 years experience in the design and development of space power systems and all related disciplines for NASA and DoD spacecraft.
  • Experience in the sizing and design of solar arrays, battery, power electronics from mission requirements.
  • Knowledge in various spacecraft battery technologies and charge control techniques.
  • Experience with power systems topologies.
  • Background in spacecraft power electronics, DC/DC converters, power distribution and control electronics
  • Must be team oriented; work and communicate well with staff at all levels.
  • Must be highly motivated and have high initiative.

Desired:

  • Experience with detailed power electronics, DC/DC converters design.
  • R&D experience with space power conversion, energy storage.
  • High visibility in the space power systems community
