Space Optical Instrument Engineer

Expected Job Duties:

  • Experienced, hands-on optical instrument system or lead engineer to lead optical instrument development efforts, proposal efforts, and monitor new developments in the state of the art and with our competition. 
  • Lead or System Engineer for optical instrument development. 
  • Perform hands-on optical instrument development tasks including optical testing, alignment, calibration, contamination and integration. 
  • Take lead in support instrument proposal efforts. 
  • Track new development in industry and efforts of tour direct competition

Required Skills/Education:

  • BS physics or Optics or equivalent in a discipline related to remote sensing (e.g. Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Astronomy) and a minimum of 7 years experience in developing space optical instrumentation. 
  • Must have hands-on experience with most of the following:  optical testing, alignment, calibration, contamination, and integration. 
  • Must have significant experience in both Lead/System Engineer roles and in writing major proposals. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. 

Desired:

  • Experience with Zeemax (optical design tool) and/or ProE (mechanical design tool). 
  • Experience with optical detector development. 
  • Radiometric system design experience
