Overall Accountability

The VFX Supervisor is responsible for helping the Director fulfill his/her creative vision by having an oversight of the entire production; ensuring the flow of communication and the establishment of an effective workflow so that the film is delivered on time and on budget. Partnering with the Director and Art Director, responsible for translating the movie’s art direction into look and lighting. Ensuring that texturing and technique are created in a way that flows through the pipeline efficiently. They will also be the Director’s point person, managing that lighting, FX and rendering are on track creatively and technically.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the leads and department supervisors to define the creative and technical approach for the show.
  • Work with the CG Supervisor to identify areas of R&D required for the show.
  • Work with the Director of Technology to ensure that the production is produced within the protocols and procedures of the studio’s production pipeline.
  • Collaborate with production management to ensure the technical and creative team is meeting schedule and quota goals on a weekly basis.
  • Communicate any concerns pro-actively to the Line Producer and or Director of Technology.
  • Collaborate with the Animation Director(s) to ensure that they are in working within the project’s processes, pipeline and procedures.
  • Work with Production to manage the day to day running of the team.
  • Work with Production to evaluate artist schedules insuring they are realistic and achievable.
  • Attend desk rounds with all members of the team on a regular basis.
  • Attend dailies sessions with the team to give feedback / approvals.
  • Oversee look development, FX, lighting and compositing.
  • Ensure assets flow from look development through to compositing, visually.
  • Ensure that the director, production designer, and art directors vision is being met.  
  • Work with the Lighting Supervisor to ensure that the visual style of the director and art director is met consistently and efficiently.
  • Identify potential problems, and creatively solve them.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years experience as a Visual Effects Supervisor.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D software packages and pipelines.
  • An experienced and honed creative eye.
  • Must have a sense of strong team dynamics and a positive morale generating style.
  • Strong arts background either as a CG lighting artist or compositor, or art director with CG experience
  • Strong leadership skills with a management overview.
  • Must be confident and well spoken in presentation environments.
