Job Description:
Overall Accountability The Stereoscopic Supervisor is responsible for the technical and aesthetic aspects of the stereoscopic rendering and viewing of the film. Working with the Director to ensure the aesthetic and story requirements are being addressed, the Stereoscopic Supervisor also ensures that the camera work is consistent from shot to shot, and the result is an enjoyable experience for the audience. Duties & Responsibilities Assign work to Artists and TDs according to their skill level, preference and production priority with a learning opportunity in mind. Oversee the daily activities of Artists and TDs and monitor the signs of burnout of the crew. Provide and manage training for new hires. Review and approve all stereoscopic materials. Ensure that the highest quality of film is being achieved within allotted budget and schedule. Supervise the stereo team, providing clear direction and leadership. Advise and support the Director to ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved within the schedule. Technically interpret the Director’s vision to the team. Hold regular production meetings. Determine the most efficient way to expedite the production of the show. Help determine and schedule resource requirements with representatives of Production, Technical and Software Departments. Acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the relevant fields. Tests new techniques and technology as necessary. Helps lead and develop “one-off” techniques as necessary Priority Setting – Spends his/her time and the time of others on what’s important; quickly zeros in on the critical few and puts the trivial many aside; can quickly sense what will help or hinder accomplishing a goal; eliminates roadblocks; creates focus. Problem Solving – uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is excellent at honest analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the first answer. Qualifications Experience in setting up cameras for stereoscopic rendering. Excellent understanding of convergence and inter-axial distance, how they affect the audience’s experience and Director’s ability to tell the story. Must be able to work within the imposed budget and schedule constraints. Prior experience as Stereoscopic Supervisor, preferably in film (prior experience in a supervisory role – managing a big group). Must be able to communicate creative and technical concerns and ideas to the Producers and the Director. Demonstrated ability in making aesthetic judgement calls. Degree in Fine Arts, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
