As a member of the hardware team on the EDS 2006 contract, this individual will be required to participate in all aspects of the hardware development lifecycle as it applies to satellite ground system development and sustainment. Responsibilities for this position include: System requirements evaluation, COTS component evaluation/trade studies, focusing on computing, networking, and space communication equipment. Design and integration of integrated computing systems, and development of system design documentation including design description documents, user manuals, and hardware drawings including system interconnect drawings and networking drawings utilizing Autocad and MS Visio. Hardware installation, test planning, test execution, and troubleshooting of installed systems. Conducts or participates in the research, design, development, testing and utilization of information processing hardware and/or electrical components, mechanisms, materials, circuitry, processes, and as a minor subset, packaging and cabinetry, for processors and/or storage. Prepares technical and progress reports on assigned projects. Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports. May specialize in one area such as storage systems, printers, etc. Required Skills: Ability to develop 2D hardware drawings, including system interconnects/schematics, rack elevations, and equipment layout drawings utilizing AutoCAD toolset. Experience designing and developing COTS-based integrated computing systems. Experience performing power utilization and thermal analysis for COTS-based integrated systems. Experience with network integration. Experience interacting with COTs vendors regarding the development of sub-contracted Requirements and Statements of Work. Experience designing with standard digital communications protocols including Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422. Excellent communication skills/interpersonal skills. Experience with the engineering development lifecycle. Able to work in a fast passed team environment to meet customer needs.
