Problem: Frequent connection problems or interruptions while using MaxHire.
Although the average speed of a broadband internet connection may be high, the stability of the connection may not be consistent and can result in periodic communication errors in MaxHire. You can use the Windows Ping utility to test the quality of your network connection.
To test your connection using the Ping utility:
Click Start > Run.
Enter cmd and click OK.
Enter ping -t pingtest.maxhire.net and press Enter.
Press CTRL+C to stop the ping test.
Enter Exit to close the command prompt window.
The ping test sends a small packet of data to the MaxHire server and back to your computer. For a stable connection to the server this should take less than 200ms per packet.
If any packets are lost or return a time of greater than 200ms, this indicates instability in the connection and you may experience communication errors.
If you see any reply times greater than 200ms, you can use the Traceroute utility to determine if the delay is caused by your connection to your ISP or a problem with the Internet backbone connection.
There is more information on using Traceroute in the Troubleshooting slow MaxHire connections topic.
