I can't see resumes in the resume preview window

Problem: I can't view a resume in the Resume Preview window or I get the following message: "filename.* is a file format not supported by the preview window. Use the OPEN button to save this file to your computer for viewing."

The Resume button displayed in people lists enables you to view each candidate's default resume without actually opening the candidate's record. In order to make resumes more legible in the Resume pane, text is generally expanded while images are shrunk &endash; much like using the Reading Layout view in Microsoft Word. A side effect of this is that formatting is rarely true to the original document, the document cannot be edited in the Resume pane, and some irregular document formats cannot be opened at all.

If you receive a warning that a candidate's default resume format is not supported by the preview window, you can usually still access the file.

To access a resume not available in the Resume pane:

  1. Open the person's record and click the Main Detail tab.

  2. From the Main Detail tab, click the Candidate Profile.

  3. Click the ellipsis button to the right of the Default/Current Resume field.

  4. Click Open For Editing.

  5. MaxHire can convert some file types to Word documents if you click Yes when prompted to copy the file and open it in Word. Otherwise, MaxHire will download the file from the server to your computer and attempt to launch it using the default program associated with the file type in Windows.

  6. After creating a copy of a file in Word, set the file as the default resume for the candidate.
